This guided walk explores two of Madrid’s most historic neighbourhoods, La Latina and Lavapiés, where many of the city’s contrasts come vividly to life. Traditionally the popular heart of the Spanish capital, these districts have also become some of its most dynamic and constantly evolving areas. Here, Madrid’s traditional character blends with multicultural diversity, as long-time residents live alongside people who have arrived from all over the world to build a new life.

Throughout the tour, you will encounter a remarkable variety of people and stories: colourful Madrileños and immigrants who built a new life in the city; notorious bandits and feared criminals; authoritarian monarchs and resilient working women; hipsters as a symbol of gentrification, lively nightlife districts, and neighbourhood movements campaigning for social change. Together, La Latina and Lavapiés capture the full diversity of a modern capital, just south of Plaza Mayor and Madrid’s historic Habsburg Quarter.

The tour also includes some of Madrid’s most iconic landmarks, including the Church of San Isidro el Real, El Rastro, the Church of San Cayetano, and many other places where history and everyday life come together.
